Simple Man" epitomized Ronnie Van Zant, who enjoyed friends, family, and a good time far more than anything money could buy. He held true to these values even after he found fame. Van Zant died in the 1977 plane crash that also claimed the lives of Skynyrd guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines (brother and sister). When the band reunited and toured in 1987, they dedicated this song to him. Even though the lyrics state, "Sit beside me, my only son," Ronnie was not the only son. He had two younger brothers along with one older sister and one younger sister. Those younger brothers are Donnie, who formed and fronted .38 Special; and Johnny, who took over as Skynyrd frontman after Ronnie's death.

I can’t figure out why this is a funeral song.

I'm South Korean student. As many people know we must study hard to go into the 'good' 'higher' university. Teachers and Parents always says work hard enough to feel like you could died. i'm not good at English so I have no idea whether I wrote this sentence properly... But the thing is that everyone must study sooooo hard, even they dont wanna do. But...I just want to be happy, I just want to live with music, I...dont want to study this much hard, I just want to be happy with my friends, But almost everyone in my country disagree with my opinions and says 'you are unmature' . But do you guys agree? i think my country is crazy. The education is too much hard , the passion for the competition(i mean the school's test) is soooooo crazy, and the happiness rate is so low, we live with depression and live without dreams. I'm just 17 years old, but me and my friends live with depression and suffer this crazy society's crazy thinking. If we dont go to good university people often think their life is ruined. Just because they didn't get to good school. Even though they have studied hard.... The fun fact is that Korean education is not about improving people thinking skills and speaking skills, our education is just competition about we could memorize things well and who could endure the patience. (maybe thing patience thing could help our life, but this is the only good thing about our education i think) But this song reminds me to live with dreams and follow my heart even though everyone in my country says i'm wrong. One day I want to make my country change, and I hope one day everyone in this world could live with their dreams. Oh my dream is to major music business. Teachers and Parents dont like my dream. But it doesn't matter. I will do this....I really want to do this....!! I just need some cheers... so i'm asking you guys whoever read this comment to cheer for me... yeah... thank you.
